We are Orion Practice Management Systems Limited (OPMS), we are based in Glasgow city centre and we specialise in developing case management software for organisations working in the field of substance misuse, mental health and criminal justice.

Orion began life as a small, specialist software unit, part-owned and operating from within a national Scottish substance misuse charity, Alcohol Focus Scotland, in the early part of the last decade.  From these beginnings we learned about all aspects of the substance misuse field, from the point of view of practitioners as well as administrators.  As the millennium moves towards its teen years, Orion have grown and developed into an independently owned company, but we still retain strong links with our founding partners and most importantly we retain our specialist focus in the field of substance misuse to which the company is dedicated.

At Orion we have always believed that a company is only as good as the people within it, and in order to provide our clients with the best service we need to work with the best people.  That is why our developers have first class specialist degrees in software development and our main trainer is an experienced professional teacher.  We believe too in staff development and endorse the pursuit of professional qualifications such as Microsoft Certification in Software Development.

Our investment in people has helped us to develop a broad client base ranging from major NHS Trusts to national voluntary organisations, all specializing in aspects of substance misuse.

Based in the vibrant centre of Glasgow, one of the UKs fastest growing commercial centre, we are moments from first class rail links, the motorway network and fifteen minutes from Glasgow Airport. 

Orion software begins with the basic need for substance misuse services to record demographic, treatment cycle and outcomes information.  Our software enhances the database provision to provide a suite of Practice Management features, which greatly improve the administrative and clinical efficiency of client organizations’. Such features are correspondence management, visual appointment planning, batch prescription production and comprehensive reporting.

In addition to the provision of this software, Orion also offers a full consultancy service, on-going structured training in software operation and maintenance, data migration, plus a full report writing service, inclusive of National Drug Treatment Monitoring System (NDTMS) Core Data Set requirements. This includes the latest Treatment Outcome Profile (TOP).

Orion has been associated with the National Treatment Agency (NTA) since its early days and is short listed as a software supplier by the NTA on their web site. 

In order to provide service and support to NHS organizations’, Orion is accredited for connectivity through N3SP, formally NHSnet.
